Support for change you can notice
Small steps towards your goals
Behavioural activation helps turn important activities into manageable next steps.
Attention to harsh self-criticism
We work on the thoughts and beliefs that can deepen hopelessness or low worth.

Working with low mood in a practical way
Low mood can narrow life quietly. You may stop doing things that once mattered, pull back from other people, lose routine and start believing little will help. Depression can also bring harsh self-criticism, hopeless predictions and a heavy sense of effort around ordinary tasks.
Through Cleeve Therapy Group, we use CBT to understand how these patterns interact, so therapy is not only about describing how bad things feel. Together, we look at what is maintaining the cycle and what changes could support daily functioning, relationships, motivation and reconnection with activities that still matter to you.
Rebuilding activity and challenging patterns
A key part of this work may be behavioural activation, which means planning meaningful, manageable activity instead of waiting for motivation to return first. With Cleeve Therapy Group, we can also look at the thoughts and beliefs that reinforce low mood, then review how new actions and new ways of thinking affect the week between sessions.
Progress is often gradual rather than dramatic, and regular reviews help keep goals realistic. You can attend online or at our Cheltenham clinic, depending on what feels more practical when energy is low.

Frequently asked questions
What if I have very little motivation?
That is very common, and it is one reason behavioural activation is helpful. Instead of waiting to feel motivated first, we plan small, manageable actions that can begin to shift mood, routine and confidence. The first steps are meant to feel possible, not ideal.
Does CBT for depression only focus on thoughts?
No. CBT for depression also looks at activity levels, withdrawal, disrupted routines and the habits that can deepen low mood. Thoughts matter, but so do behaviour, self-care and reconnecting with things or people that still carry some meaning for you.
How quickly should I expect change?
Progress is often gradual. Some people notice change through better routine or slightly more activity before mood lifts in a bigger way. Regular reviews help us look for realistic signs of movement, rather than expecting you to feel completely different very quickly.
